Long beach clamps down on evictions relating to substantial remodels.
Under a recent proposal, the Long Beach City Council gave the thumbs up to strengthen its "just cause" eviction protections. When property owners contemplate construction work that would result in a no-fault tenancy, he or she must notify the city. In turn, the city will dispatch "housing navigators" to assist displaced renters.
The proposal also imposes hefty fines on violators and increases permanent relocation fees to $4,500 or two months' rent, whichever is higher. We'll expect further news in early 2022 as the measure returns to the council.
